This lab will explore the position of social art practice in higher education from a range of social and cultural perspectives. Artists from four institutions, including the universities of Highlands & Islands, Middlesex and Goldsmiths and Limerick School of Art and Design, will share experiences of implementing postgraduate programmes in their institutions.
Through both contentious and practical questioning conversations will address:
How do we get it into the institutions? Can the subject survive within the curriculum without compromise to principles and values? Once inside, how do we keep it there? Do we want social art practice embedded in the institutions? What benefit will the field gain from inclusion in higher education? How can social art practice benefit the institution? And what can the institution give practitioners?
