Open Call: 'Oh Pendle Oh Pendle' [Film Premiere followed by Q&A] - William Titley

  • Site Gallery (Studio) 1 Brown Street Sheffield S1 2BS (map)

Born and raised in Pendle, artist William Titley asked his friends and relatives what they could remember about an old film called Whistle down the Wind (1961), starring Hayley Mills. It was filmed around Pendle Hill - a local landmark from which the borough gets its name - and follows the story of a group of children who find a man in their barn, whom they believe to be Jesus Christ. The results were edited in to this 33-minute film.

The multi-layered narrative unravels across sixteen screens (in a single projection), and is at the mercy of local weather conditions and everyday life.
